Located in the heart of Macon, GA, Papouli's Mediterranean Cafe and Market offers a vibrant and authentic taste of the Mediterranean through its delightful fusion of Greek and Middle Eastern cuisines. This charming restaurant has won the hearts of locals and visitors alike with its warm atmosphere, attentive service, and a menu that wonderfully showcases the rich flavors and textures of the region.

Step inside Papouli's and you'll immediately feel embraced by its inviting ambiance—cozy yet lively, with touches of Mediterranean charm reflected in its decor and friendly staff. Whether you're seeking a casual lunch or a flavorful dinner, the cafe provides a welcoming backdrop for an enjoyable dining experience.

The menu is a treasure trove for food lovers, especially those who appreciate fresh, wholesome, and vibrant ingredients. Fans of vegetarian cuisine will be delighted by dishes such as the falafel wrap, falafel with lentil soup, and the Yia Yia’s Favorite Greek Salad, all crafted with an expert balance of spices and freshness. Meanwhile, meat lovers can indulge in classics like the Beef Lamb Gyro and Chicken Souvlaki Wrap, each bursting with rich, savory notes and tender textures that melt in the mouth.

One cannot overlook the Mediterranean Sampler, a perfect introduction to the cafe’s diverse offerings, presenting an array of dips, spreads, and small bites that awaken the palate. The dolmas, stuffed grape leaves, provide a subtly tangy contrast to the warm, golden spanakopita plate—flaky pastry layered with spinach and feta, delivering satisfying bursts of creamy, savory goodness.

Customers often rave about the Greek Style Fries—a delightful twist that elevates simple potatoes with a dusting of feta and fresh parsley, delivering a savory and slightly tangy crunch that pairs perfectly with any gyro or wrap. The homemade pita bread is another star, noted for its softness and warmth, ideal for scooping up generous portions of creamy hummus or dipping into the rich tahini sauce.

For those with a sweet tooth, the Kataifi pastry and baklava offer a luscious conclusion, balancing sweetness with flaky textures and a delicate hint of nuts and honey. What makes Papouli’s baklava especially memorable is its perfect sweetness level—not overly sugary but just right, inviting you to savor each bite slowly.

Beyond the food, the customer experience here feels genuinely personalized. Regulars appreciate the friendly staff, who are quick to suggest favorites and accommodate preferences, enhancing that neighborhood feel. Several visitors mention how the service is both quick and warm, making every visit feel like a homecoming. The recent upgrades to the seating—with banquettes and improved display cases for fresh salads and desserts—have only added to the cafe’s welcoming and comfortable vibe.

While some guests note that certain extras, like a small portion of feta cheese, might feel a bit pricey, the overall consensus is that the exceptional quality, authenticity, and flavor justify a meal at Papouli’s. From first bite to last, the cafe invites diners to embark on a sensory journey through the Mediterranean, celebrating its renowned freshness, aromatic spices, and vibrant colors.

Whether you are a long-time fan of Mediterranean food or new to its delights, Papouli's Mediterranean Cafe and Market in Macon promises a memorable dining experience filled with hearty dishes, authentic flavors, and a sincere smile that keeps customers coming back time and again.

Nice little place in Macon, GA. The falafel was good. It wasn't as extraordinary as everyone i spoke to said so. The Hummus was delicious, not sure what they put on top of it. The pita was soft and yummy. I loved the Baklava and LOVED that it wasn't too sweet. Also The Greek Style Fries were YUMMY, too. Just felt like it was a little too pricy for my taste. He charged for a small 1 oz side of feta and tatziki sauces. The feta sauce was good with the falafel! The Customer Service was good too!

Discovered this small restaurant while visiting Macon today. A friendly woman greeted me and recommended a “Philly Cheese Steak”-style gyro with Greek fries. The traditional gyro was covered with onions, bell peppers and cheese, and tasted amazing. The pita was fresh and warm, and the beef and lamb meat was tender and piping hot. The fries were covered with parsley and a dusting of feta cheese, but could have been hotter. The decorations were tasteful and the ambiance was more oriented to takeout, however, inside and outside tables and booths definitely made dining on site a good option. Servings were generous. I highly recommend!

I went here for lunch mostly because I was meeting a friend for coffee nearby. I went thinking I would just get a gyro but wound up with the Mediterranean Sampler and Spanikapatas off the Appetizer menu. Great choices. I wasn’t too sure about the roasted egg plant dip but it was SO good. Definitely will be back soon.

We've been coming here for over 20 years so I don't know why it took me so long to add a review. Maybe because it's been probably 10 since I've been here for some reason. Anyway, they've changed a lot aesthetically; they added banquettes and replaced the stand-alone tables which gives a lot more seating. Pulled out the big case and now have two smaller ones to show off their fresh salads and desserts. Gyros are the same delicious wraps with tzatziki sauce and fresh chopped onions and lettuce. I tried the jasmine rice which looks plain but tastes salty and herby. The Greek fries are to die for, sprinkled with Feta cheese and herbs. The service is fast as well. By the time I'd filled my cup with Diet Coke, my gyro was on the table waiting. If you want traditional Greek food without the distraction of Italian in the mix, come here. You won't regret it.

Heading north from Dublin and found Papouli’s in Macon and was so super excited! They used to have a location in Alpharetta that I frequented often but it’s no longer there. They are consistently good with food and service. We chose a Greek salad and a gyro but you can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. Love, love, love this restaurant. It’s the perfect food served quickly.

Online order was flawless. Ready in 15 minutes for pickup. Spartan Gyro plate, hummus and salad were seasoned well. Good variety on the menu and service at the counter was prompt and professional.

Papouli’s is one of my son and his now wife’s favorite places to eat. When he was getting married and we were hosting their rehearsal dinner, they wanted Papouli’s to cater. We could not have asked for a more seamless experience with feeding around 50 people. Their catering menu is comprehensive and Steve was very easy to work with and made sure everything was delivered perfectly, hot and on time. I can’t tell you how many compliments we received at the rehearsal dinner. We would without hesitation dine there as well as use them in future catering events. Highly recommend!
